LISA Service and Data Description

Standard Services

Version 1.11
Effective 10 August 2026
BioCV GmbH (EU) / BioCV Inc. (US)

Centrally maintained description referenced in the BioCV LISA Terms (including EU Annex D.1). It describes the standard LISA Services and the data they generate and applies to standard subscriptions, purchases, and renewals. This document is available at https://biocv.info/legal/lisa-service-description and is made available to Customer before acceptance. A Customer-specific Order or addendum is required only for material deviations, bespoke functionality, or customer-specific commitments.

1. Services Covered

These standard Services comprise: (a) BioCV connected hardware, including BioTag ear tags and BioNode receivers (“Hardware”); (b) the LISA web application and mobile applications for Android and iOS (“Software”); and (c) where included in the applicable Order, subscription plan or Customer-account configuration, the LISA application programming interface and developer tools (“API”). This description applies to the standard configuration of these Services. The LISA web application and mobile applications for Android and iOS are available. Initial BioTag commissioning includes a one-time NFC registration step that currently requires a compatible NFC-enabled Android device running the LISA Android application. The LISA iOS application does not support this NFC registration step. Apart from this one-time NFC registration step, the Android and iOS applications provide the standard LISA functionality that BioCV makes available for the applicable Customer account from time to time, subject to the then-current Documentation and supported-device and operating-system requirements.

RSSI-based room indication. Where enabled, the Software may display an estimated room or area derived from RSSI. This is an approximate indication for orientation only, may be incorrect — including because reception conditions may cause a receiver in another room or area to receive a stronger signal — and is not a precise localization or tracking function, warranty, service level or assurance of actual location. The Customer must verify actual location independently and must not rely on the estimate as the sole basis for material decisions.

2. Data Generated by the Standard Services

The following categories of product and related-service data are generated, together with their typical formats, estimated volumes, and collection cadence:

Data categoryFormatEstimated volumeCollection cadence
Sensor telemetry windows, typically based on potential two-second intervals per actively transmitting BioTagJSON / row recordsUp to approximately 43,200 potential telemetry windows per actively transmitting BioTag per day. Actual records may be lower depending on activation status, configuration, transmission, reception, connectivity, filtering, duplicate or test-data exclusion, and other operating conditions.Continuous / near real-time
Device status, health, and connectivityJSON / row recordsTypically a small number of periodic status records per BioTag per day and up to a few hundred records per BioNode per day; actual volume varies with configuration, firmware and connectivity.Periodic
Animal / group records and identifiersStructured recordsDepends on herd sizeOn event / on change
User, account, and configuration dataStructured recordsLowOn change
Operational logs and diagnosticsLog recordsVaries with Site size and activity; typically on the order of megabytes per Site per day.Continuous

3. Exportable Data and Digital Assets

Subject to Section 7, BioCV makes available, on verified request, the retained customer-attributable data associated with the Customer's account. The standard export is not limited to Firestore account information: it covers retained customer-attributable account, device, animal, configuration, sensor/product and related-service data available across Firestore, Cloud SQL, BigQuery and Cloud Storage, subject to lawful exclusions (Section 4). There is no self-service export portal in this release; exports are handled as verified requests to support@biocv.org and delivered manually in CSV, JSON or another structured, machine-readable format.

For Customers to whom the EU Data Act applies, BioCV will additionally make available the readily available data and associated metadata that BioCV is required to provide under applicable law, including to a third party selected by the Customer where legally required. Any other export or third-party delivery is provided only where required by applicable law or expressly agreed in an Order.

4. Excluded Data and Legally Permitted Basis

The following are not included in the exportable data, on the legally permitted bases indicated: derived insights and model outputs, and proprietary algorithms and internal parameters (trade secret / proprietary); internal enriched or aggregated data (trade secret / proprietary); and other users' or third parties' data (data-protection and third-party rights). Exclusions are limited to what applicable law (including, in the EU, the Data Act) permits; readily available data required to be shared is not withheld.

5. Access, Export Method, Format, and Frequency

Customers view and work with data through the LISA Software and, where enabled for the account, the API. For the interim release there is no self-service export portal: a full data export is obtained by sending a verified request to support@biocv.org, and BioCV delivers the data manually in CSV, JSON or another structured, machine-readable format within a reasonable period. Where the API is enabled, Customers may additionally retrieve data through the available API endpoints.

Where the API is enabled for the account, data may additionally be retrieved through the API. API documentation is made available to enabled Customers on request; rate limits are not published as a general schedule but are communicated or agreed per Customer in the applicable Order, account configuration or API documentation, and may vary by Customer, subscription, integration and use case.

6. Storage Location, Retention, and Estimated Volume

Primary LISA hosting is in the EU on Google Cloud / Firebase, including Firestore in the eur3 (Europe) location, infrastructure in Frankfurt and Belgium, EU Cloud Storage, EU BigQuery, and EU backups. BioCV GmbH owns and operates this backend and provides hosting and platform operations for both EU customers (BioCV GmbH) and US customers (BioCV Inc.); BioCV Inc. does not maintain a separate EU customer database. Not all processing occurs exclusively in the EEA: Google Cloud logging uses globally located log buckets, and diagnostic logs may contain technical device identifiers such as MAC addresses; Pub/Sub messages containing device identifiers are configured for persistence in specified EU regions. The infrastructure providers and regions are further identified in the Subprocessor and Data-Location List (https://biocv.info/legal/subprocessors) and, for non-personal data and third-country safeguards, the Data Act Transparency Statement (https://biocv.info/legal/data-act).

Retention: production-stream objects are automatically deleted after 30 days; account-export files are deleted after 30 days; active account data is deleted when the customer deletes the account; residual account backup copies expire within no more than approximately 30 days; Firestore backups are taken weekly and retained approximately 22 days; Cloud SQL backups and transaction logs are retained seven days; ordinary application and diagnostic logs are retained 30 days; required Google Cloud audit/security logs are retained 400 days. After contract termination, related customer data is deleted or de-associated no later than three months after termination (BigQuery has no automatic table expiration, so this is met through BioCV's documented manual termination procedure). If a backup is restored, previously completed deletion requests are reapplied.

Estimated volume: raw telemetry is typically in the range of a few megabytes per Active Animal per day (reflecting up to approximately 43,200 potential two-second telemetry windows), plus a smaller fixed overhead per BioNode and per Site for status, connectivity and log data. These are estimates that vary with configuration, connectivity and operating conditions and are not guaranteed maximums.

7. Data-Subject and User Safeguards; Third-Party Sharing

Access and sharing are subject to the protection of personal data (including third-party data) and of trade secrets. Personal data is processed under the Privacy Notice and the Data Processing Agreement (Annex B of the applicable Terms). For Customers to whom the EU Data Act applies, BioCV will make the relevant data available to a third party selected by the Customer to the extent required by applicable law and subject to the safeguards stated above. For other Customers, third-party exports are available only where required by applicable law or expressly agreed in an Order.

8. Data Act Rights and Switching (EU)

For customers under the EU Terms, the EU Data Act rights and the switching, retrieval, and charge arrangements are set out in Annex D of those Terms. In summary: switching may be initiated on no more than two (2) months' notice; the standard transition period is up to thirty (30) calendar days (extendable as the Data Act permits); the Customer has at least thirty (30) days after termination to retrieve exportable data and digital assets; and BioCV currently imposes no switching charges.

9. Changes and Versioning

BioCV maintains this description current and versioned. The version and date appear above. Material changes are reflected here at the permanent URL. Where a change materially and adversely affects core functionality, the change provisions of the applicable Terms apply.
